PROFESSIONAL LAUNDRY SECRETS
An intelligent approach to laundry can mean the difference between an heirloom tablecloth and a lovely dust rag.
To help prevent dark laundry from fading:
- Treat stains before laundering; cold water isn’t as effective as hot water for removing stains.
- Fasten buttons, snaps and zippers, and turn clothes inside out.
- Fill your machine with cold water and select a short cycle.
- Use a detergent formulated especially for dark loads.
- Remove dryer-safe items from dryer while still damp. The friction of tumble dryers can hasten fading.
- Dry away from direct sunlight.
To help keep white laundry bright:
- Check the fabric care label and use the hottest water recommended.
- Wrap the peel of a lemon in cheesecloth and drop it into the wash load. Or, dilute a quarter cup of hydrogen peroxide with a cup of water and add it to the rinse cycle.
- Dry outdoors in full sunlight whenever possible.
- Use oxygen bleach as a laundry booster.
