Foot Care
Do you neglect your feet? When it comes to caring for our body, one aspect we tend to neglect is our feet. It’s easy to take feet for granted, but if you stop to think about how much your feet do for you daily and how much longer you wish them to do so, you may begin giving them the attention they deserve.
From standing to sports, feet are often the hardest working extremities. Think of how strong your feet are as they carry the weight of your entire body and get you where you want to go. For this reason foot care is very important in order to keep your feet healthy, strong, and beautiful.
Follow this simple foot care routine (three times a week) and visit Total Beauty Experience for all your foot care accessories and you’ll be giving your feet the care they deserve.
Foot Bath: Give your feet a good soak. A foot bath can be an invigorating treat for tired, sore feet.
- Peppermint essential oil is used for boosting blood circulation and reducing pain of aching feet.
- Use lavender essential oils to relieve aches and reduce swelling.
- A lukewarm foot bath infused with Dead Sea Salts will do wonders to alleviate muscle tension. The rich blend of minerals captured within is proven to have immediate relaxing and soothing effects.
- Archipelago® Milk Foot Soak create the perfect moisturizing soak that naturally cleanses, softens and deodorizes the feet. Dissolve generous amount in hto water. Soak tired and soar feet for a minimum of five minutes.
- Stimulate the nerve endings of your feet by placing a cup of marbles or smooth round stones into the bath water. Gently roll your feet on top and around the stones, and enjoy the sensation.
- Stretch the muscles of your feet by picking up the stones with your toes, flex and contract your feet and toes, let go and repeat.
- Enjoy a soothing foot bath during your next pedicure.
Exfoliate Feet: Exfoliation increases the circulation, stimulates the lymph flow, removes dead skin and smoothes the skin’s surface. Be gentle when applying to the top of the foot.
- Begin by buffing the calluses and dry skin on your feet with a pumice stone. Use gentle back and forth strokes to remove the dead, dry outer layers.
- Draw a soothing foot bath. Soak feet for at least five minutes with your favorite essential oils and/or Dead Sea Salts to soften the skin.
- Apply a exfoliating cream or foot polish to one foot at a time. Rub cream in massaging circular motions, then return foot to bath to rinse away cream. We recommend the following exfoliating creams available at Total Beauty Experience:
- Thymes Essentials AHA Foot Cream, a gental exfoliate with alpha hydroxy acid fruit complex as shea butter and sunflower oil moisturize, and tea tree oil and vegetable protein extract refresh and deodorize tired feet.
- Archipelago® Sugar Polish is suitable for all skin types. Choose your favorite among Coconut, Vanilla, and Mango then allow the sugar to gently slough away dead cells. Soy proteins, antioxidants and dried milk solids combine together to keep feet hydrated and soft.
- After rinsing and soaking feet, pat them dry with a warm towel. Massage your favorite foot moisturizer into the top and bottoms of your feet. Your skin will lock in the moisture from the foot bath so that your feet continue to be soft and smooth. We recommend the following foot creams available at Total Beauty Experience:
- Enriched Intensive Foot Cream by AHAVA is a soothing foot cream that acts deeply to alleviate the itchiness, redness and scaling of dry feet. Dermud’s special blend of Dead Sea mud, minerals and plant derivatives moisturizes as it soothes and repairs, restoring youthful vitality to your feet.
- Dermalogica’s ultra-rich, long-lasting body cream will help heal and relieve extra dry skin. This unique, liquefying formula is also ideal for all-over, deeply-moisturizing body massage. Free of essential oils and containing no artificial fragrance or color, this cream will condition, smooth and protect your feet.
- Body Time® Orange Rosemary Hand & Foot Care Cream is an intensive treatment cream with protective and nourishing botanicals that stimulate circulation, moisturize deeply and soothe even the most severe foot and hand problems, including calloused heels and puffy and swollen feet and hands that are regularly exposed to extreme cold. Energizing essential oils of rosemary, blood orange and sweet orange will stimulate your senses.
Foot Massage: There is nothing like a good foot massage! Done correctly, a foot massage can do wonders for the feet but can also promote healing and relaxation in other parts of the body as well.
- Foot massages done by a significant other can be a great way to start a romantic evening. Even if the foot massage is done by a friend, the benefits can be very pleasant. In either case, recline your body on a sofa or bed to fully relax.
- Solo foot massages can be done in a comfortable chair, preferably a recliner with padded arms. Sit back and prop one foot up on your lap and let the other rest extended in front of you and follow the procedures below.
- Use your favorite massage oil or lotion. Rub the oil or cream onto both hands vigorously to warm them before beginning the massage.
- On the top of the foot begin a long, slow, firm, stroking motion with your thumbs, starting at the tips of the toes and sliding back away from you, all the way up to the ankle; then retrace your steps back to the toes with a lighter stroke. Repeat this step three to five times.
- Release tension in the inner and outer longitudinal arches with simple arch presses. Using the heel of one hand, push hard as you slide along the arch from the ball of the foot toward the heel and back again. Repeat five times. Apply as much pressure as it is comfortable but not painful.
- Ankle rotations are a great way to loosen joints and relax feet.
- Gently pull and squeeze toes. This massage can be very calming. Grasp the foot beneath the arch. With the other hand, beginning with the big toe, hold the toe with your thumb on top and index finger beneath. Starting at the base of the toe, slowly and firmly pull the toe, sliding your fingers to the top and back to the base. Now repeat, but gently squeeze and roll the toe between your thumb and index finger, working your way to the tip and back to the base. Repeat these two movements on the remaining toes.
Caring for your feet can be life transforming. You may even choose to do one or more of the above foot care methods as often as three times a week. Have fun with foot care – create a spa-like atmosphere at home with candles and soft music; invite friends and family over and have a foot care party.
