CLEAN GREEN

July 24th, 2009 by admin

Being environmentally responsible is an integral part of Caldrea. Caldrea’s products provide an effective alternative for people who are concerned with the environmental effects of conventional cleaning products. Caldrea also feels it is important to go beyond making earth-friendly products by instituting earth-friendly practices at their home office to protect and care for the environment.

Caldrea wants their products to be at their optimum freshness and safety throughout their useful lifetime, so they use the minimal amount of synthetic preservatives to accomplish this — in fact, less than one percent.  Their products use a combination of natural essential oils and safe synthetic materials. Caldrea chooses this approach to provide consistent performance, quality, and safety in every bottle.

Earth-Friendly Products

  • All Caldrea products are phthalate-free.

  • All Caldrea liquid products are biodegradable.

  • Some of their powder products contain minerals that do not biodegrade, but do break down into non-harmful decomposition products.

  • Caldrea products do not contain ammonia, chlorine, phosphates or petroleum distillates.

  • Caldrea packaging is recyclable.

  • They do not test products on animals. In order to make a true claim that a product is non-toxic — one that is recognized by the FDA — animal testing is required. Because we do not test on animals, we do not make the claim of non-toxic. In the meantime, Caldrea is investigating in-vitro (test tube) methodologies that, in the future, may be able to support a non-toxic formulation process. At present, they have a toxicologist review all of our formulations against a mathematical, theoretical model for safety assessment.

  • You will not find antibacterial or antiseptic ingredients in Caldrea household cleansers.

  • Caldrea makes intelligent, responsible raw material choices, and whenever possible, obtain materials from renewable plant resources such as olive, coconut, corn or soy. At times they choose not to use a plant-derived material for reasons of efficacy, consistency and safety.

  • Caldrea manufactures according to exacting personal care standards in a cosmetic-grade cGMP facility. cGMP is an abbreviation for the term “current Good Manufacturing Practice,” which refers to FDA regulations regarding the manufacturing, testing, and quality control of pharmaceutical and food products.

Earth-Friendly Practices

  • Caldrea is about Paper reduction: They use electronic communication whenever possible. If paper is necessary, they use recycled-content paper. They reuse paper for printing as much as they can.

  • Gas usage reduction: A number of employees choose to walk, ride bikes, take public transportation, or carpool to work.

  • Compost machine: Centrally located in the home office lunchroom, it reduces food waste by turning it into nutrient-rich soil that their employees take home and use in their gardens. Endearingly named “Chewbacca,” this little dirt-maker is their surrogate office pet.

  • Green Team: Caldrea has instituted a team to help them address key environmental issues and execute green initiatives both at work and in their personal lives. The Green Team frequently facilitates events to help them improve and learn. The members of this team are passionate and inspiring in their fervent efforts toward the greater good.

Caldrea has only just begun…

Here are just a few areas they will continue to assess and improve on in their commitment to being environmentally responsible:

  • Materials sourcing
  • Manufacturing processes
  • Research and product development
  • Internal operations
